Baby Bird Show
Seven contestants entered 56 birds in MASCOT's 2009 Baby Bird Show held on 26 September in Glen Burnie, Maryland. They were joined by 13 other members and guests to witness the largest Baby Bird Show in Chapter 28's recent history.

The birds were grouped into eight classes and allowed to rest under sheets while the attendees enjoyed a nice spread of foods, desserts and drinks.  A short business meeting followed to review details of the upcoming 7 November Annual Song Contest. Then the birds were staged by class in abbreviated sessions of 15 minutes.

The attendees themselves were the judges and by a vote of hands they selected the top three birds from each class.  After each vote, the two ASC sanctioned judges present, Tad Rykojc and Jeanne Pieper, added their commentary to each class.  The resulting discussion was an excellent learning experience for all present.

To conclude the show the top birds from each class were brought back on stage for another chance to impress the crowd.  The singers were up to the challenge and the final class was indeed the best and most closely contested.  In a tight vote, the attendees chose a bird bred by Jeanne Pieper as the best in show followed by birds from Ronnie DeMuro and Akbar Karbasi for second and third respectively.  Jeanne, Ronnie and Akbar each won bags of ABBA seed for their victories.

A special word of thanks is due to all who participated in today's event as either a contestant or a spectator. Some traveled from the neighboring states of West Virginia, Virginia, New Jersey and Pennsylvania and we hope their trips were worthwhile.  We certainly enjoyed their company and look forward to seeing them at future club events.
