Long Island Song Canary Club Chapter 1 Hauppauge, New York 27 November 2010

In the last show of the season for many ASC members in the East, judge Danny Iacavone listened to 126 birds from 13 contestants in Chapter 1's song contest.  He returned Saoud Rihan to his familiar perches of first and second place.  Impressively, Saoud also had four of the top ten birds in the show.  First year hobbyists Aji and Dodi Sunjaya capped a remarkable 2010 show season by coming in third -- the fifth straight finish for them as first, second or third.  Aji and Dodi also earned the tenth spot in the show.  Fourth place went to Paul and Cheryl Fergsuson, a significant accomplishment for them as they also won Best Novice and promptly lost that classification (Novice) at future ASC events.  Kathy Steckler, in a testament to skillful breeding and perseverance ended a gratifying and successful show year by taking the fifth and seventh spots.  Jeanne Pieper, also no stranger to the top bench placed a bird in the eigth position.  Laura Schwanof organized the classes and Kathy Steckler kept the scores as secretary.  Jeff Lingenfleter served as the chief steward.   The members of Chapter 1 also provided an excellent lunch and a fun raffle for the enjoyment of the contestants.  Chapter 1 punctuated the ending to a successful 2010 season for ASC members from Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Virginia, Pennsylavania and New England.  The fact that people from each of these regions faithfully gather each weekend in the fall to enjoy the unique talents of their birds and most of all, each other's friendship, is a striking example of what strong ASC Chapters can do to promote the American Singer hobby.  Congratulations to all chapter members who worked so hard to organize this year's contests and to those who particpated in them.    Now it's time to make preparations for the breeding season.  We wish everyone much success in those endeavors so that a new crop of American Singers can entertain us in 2011.
