Long Island Song Canary Club Chapter 1 Hauppauge, New York 28 November 2009

Jeanne Pieper of MASCOT expertly judged 133 birds in 15 classes from 10 contestants at Chapter 1's song contest -- the final show (sadly) of 2009 for most of us here in the mid-Atlantic.  She awarded the top two spots to birds bred by Saoud Rihan for his impressive fifth win of the year.  Ronnie DeMuro also continued her string of top bench appearances by taking the third best bird in show.   Jeanne did a marvelous job explaining her choices to the gallery members and to Tony Ramos of Chapter 1 who sat as her understudy.  Her commentary was especially appreciated by Chapter 1's newer members and instructive to the many visitors in attendance learning about the American Singer hobby. Laura Schwanof pulled double duty as both the class organizer and secretary.  Also, she was a wonderful  ambassador for the hobby, greeting all visitors to the show hall and answering their questions about the competition.  Jeff Lingenfelter was the head steward and he kept the classes moving nicely for Jeanne.  As always, the members of Chapter 1 provided an excellent lunch and a well stocked raffle for the enjoyment of the contestants. It was a fine way to end a very successful 2009 season for American Singers among the Maryland, New York and New Jersey ASC chapters.  The contestants wished each other well as they departed for home, with most already thinking about their pairings in the coming weeks and looking forward to the 2010 ASC show circuit with much anticipation. Congratulations to everyone who participated in the shows this year and good luck to all for a very successful 2010!
