We in MASCOT also mourn Abe and we thank Chapter 25 for dedicating their show to his memory.
Show Summary:
Seventeen contestants ranging from Florida to Canada presented 200 birds to judges Gary Tom of California and Sam Can of New Jersey. After assessing 23 identical classes, 7 old and 16 young, they each selected their top 10 birds. Although the judges often shared opinions on the top 3 birds per class, the final selections of each judge was was different. However, there was one important consistency. Saoud Rihan won both sides of the show. Our congratulations to Saoud for achieving this difficult feat. Also noteworthy was the performance of birds bred by Ronnie DeMuro who finished second under Judge Can and third under Judge Tom. Additionally, Paul and Cheryl Ferguson had a terrific showing by taking second overall under Judge Tom. Steve Baptiste continued his string of top three finishes by reaching third under Judge Can. The winners under each judge, subject to ASC approval, are listed below the photos below. Special thanks go to Gino Salvi, Victor Steckler and Tom Miller who captured the joys of the day with their cameras.
The logisitical requirements of Chapter 25's show are very difficult because it is a double show that always attracts a large field. This year's count of 200 was no exception. Laura Schwanof organized the classes while Tom Miller ensured that they were staged and presented to the judges without delay. Tom was assisted by many of the contestants who pitched in to steward 400 cages during the day.
Meanwhile Kathy Steckler and Celia Miller served as secretaries for Judges Tom and Can respectively.
Another signature of Chapter 25's show is the dinner graciously hosted by Tom and Celia at their home after the show. This year's theme was Italian cuisine and those who attended the dinner were well rewarded by Celia's great planning and culinary talents. It's simply a marvelous event and the perfect keynote to one of the best ASC Chapter shows each year.
Next week, 29 October, many of us are venturing to Danbury, Connecticut for The New England American Singers Club, Chapter 3's, Inaugural Show. Paul and Cheryl Ferguson have worked hard on this event and we know that good things are in store. We encourage you to join us there.
